How Many FedEx Cup Points are Awarded in a PGA Tournament?

The PGA Tour has a playoff system. Seeding in the playoffs depends on the number of FedEx Cup points that players earn in the regular golf season. Players earn points in each tournament event.

The winner in most events earns 500 points, although each World Golf Championships event is worth 550 points. The Major Tournaments

The Masters
U. S. Open
The British Open
The PGA

along with The Players Championship, yield 600 points for the winner.

A few other tour events have a winner’s share of 250. These are tournaments that compete in the same week with invitational PGA events.

Distribution of FedEx Cup Points

In a standard PGA Tournament, the points are distributed in this fashion

1st 500
2nd 300
3rd 190
4th 135
5th 110
6th 100

The points go down in value for each finisher until to zero. How many points are distributed depend on how many pro players finish the event. Amateurs do not earn any points.

In the Farmer’s Insurance Open, Bubba Watson earned 500 points, and 2,948 points were distributed to the other players for a total of 3,484.

Complicated stuff. Information gathered from pgatour.com.
